Dust Safety Science, a leading source for information and resources relating to combustible dust safety, has announced the formation of the Combustible Dust Training Institute (CDTI), an organization dedicated to providing world-class training and certification programs in dust explosion safety.
The vision of CDTI is “to promote effective, efficient, and compliant combustible dust safety programs by developing comprehensive training and certification programs that empower people working in and with industries handling combustible dust worldwide.”
The institute’s programs are designed to help professionals managing combustible dust safety in industrial facilities, along with those who consult, inspect, or lead dust hazard management initiatives gain the necessary expertise to protect plants, reduce risks, and save lives.
The CDTI is offering two initial certification programs: Certified Dust Safety Professional (CDSP) and Certified DHA Leader (CDHA). The CDSP program is designed for those responsible for combustible dust safety in industrial facilities or who consult and train others on these challenges. The program covers everything needed to understand, mitigate, and manage dust explosion hazards effectively. Participants will learn how to interpret DHA findings, implement practical safety solutions, and ensure compliance with industry standards.
Program highlights include:
- Self-paced, expert-led training on hazard awareness, testing, management systems, and explosion mitigation
- Elective courses including explosion venting design, electrostatics, and incident analysis
- Certification exam and experience project submission
- Ongoing peer support and access to industry-leading resources
The CDHA program is tailored for professionals leading or supporting Dust Hazard Analyses (DHAs) within their facilities or on behalf of clients. The CDHA certification builds the specialized skills needed to assess combustible dust risks, facilitate effective DHAs, and implement actionable safety measures.
Program highlights include:
- Core training on hazard identification, sampling and testing, ignition source control, and assessing fire and explosion hazards
- Exclusive access to the 8-Hour DHA Facilitator Course
- Optional electives for more specialized learning
- Certification exam and experience project submission
The training is built from the insights of industry professionals, consultants, regulators, and researchers who have dedicated their careers to dust safety.
The CDTI is currently accepting applications for its first certification cohorts, launching on May 1st and is offering a 50% discount for the first 15-20 registrants.
