Vancouver, WA (ABM release) — ABM Equipment has announced its rental service for the food and beverage industry. This offering is designed to handle short-term X-ray needs for producers who don’t need equipment full-time. This most commonly occurs while testing a new product or when a batch is known to be contaminated or suspected to be contaminated due to some plant incident.

As food and beverage producers experience increased pressure from inflation and supply chain disruptions, those with larger customers are now facing X-ray requirements from their buyers. Rent-to-own programs essentially allow processors to finance an X-ray machine while trying it out.

Benefits of X-ray rentals include:

1.      Speed: Lead times for complex equipment like X-ray machines can be long, and food and beverage manufacturers often don’t have months to spare. Food can spoil, buyers may be visiting the plant, or product may simply be taking up too much space.
2.      Flexibility: Short-term and long-term rental options can suit various production needs and circumstances. If product needs to be inspected and there is no space to inspect it, manufacturers can send product to be inspected at ABM’s facility.
3.      Access to the latest technology: As Eagle PI’s principal distributor, ABM Equipment provides the option to rent a photon-counting unit. Eagle PI’s machines are currently the market-best photon-counting option, which is a new development for the industry.

“A big benefit we offer to the space is short-term access to PXT systems, which are currently the highest-performing machines on the market,” said Sam Cassa, sales manager at ABM Equipment. “As of late 2024 some companies have started to claim the same thing, but we urge people to send test product to any competitor to see for themselves.”

Food X-ray systems are designed to detect virtually any physical contaminant in virtually any type of container as long as the contaminant differs from the product by a wide enough margin. This includes contaminants such as metal, glass, stone, and bone in containers from plastic to glass and metal. The systems can also detect product irregularities such as over/under weight, dislodged caps, fat content, and more.
